Here are some practical tips for choosing an air fryer capacity for a family of four:
1. Basic Capacity
Minimum Requirement: 5L → Suitable for preparing a single main dish (e.g., 12 chicken wings/4 pork chops), but requiring batch cooking of side dishes (fries, vegetables, etc.).
Ideal Capacity: 6-7L → Can accommodate a whole chicken (approximately 1.5kg) or a main dish and side dishes (e.g., 4 steaks + a layer of fries).
2. Adjusting to Dietary Habits
If you prefer to cook whole chickens/large cuts of meat: Choose an oven-safe model (with a rotating spit) with a capacity of 7L or larger to avoid squeezing and heating the food.
If you frequently eat small fried snacks: A 5L drawer-safe model is sufficient (e.g., popcorn chicken, fries) and saves space.
If you need to serve multiple dishes simultaneously: Choose a dual-basket model (each basket with a capacity of 3.5L or larger) to prepare two dishes simultaneously (e.g., chicken wings on the left and vegetables on the right).
3. Pain Points of Insufficient Capacity
Stacking Leads to Undercooked Fries: When stacked twice, the bottom layer of fries becomes soggy and soft, while the top layer becomes burnt (the hot air can't penetrate).
Extended Cooking Time: If you need to cook in two or three batches, the whole family will have to wait 20-30 minutes longer for their meal.
4. Kitchen Space Recommendations
Countertop Depth <40cm: Choose a drawer-type unit (5-6L), which has a shorter cabinet (usually 35cm deep).
Capacity for Large Appliances: Prefer an oven-type unit (7L). Although it is >45cm deep, it saves vertical space.
